How-To: Casual Letters to Friends or Family
Greet them and tell them the reason that you’re writing to them. This could be because you miss them, because you want to make them smile, because you were thinking of them, for no reason at all, etc…

It’s been too long since I’ve seen you, so I wanted to catch up!
Hey! I didn’t know what else to do with my time, but I was thinking about you, so I thought I’d write you a letter.
Recall either something you did together or something that you’ve told them about recently.
I’ve been deprived of good Virginia wine since we last hung out!
I miss playing with the dogs and visiting breweries with you.
I can’t believe we haven’t talked since I went on that vacation!
Tell them about some activities that you have done since you last spoke or were together.
Since then, I’ve been so caught up in work, but I’m looking for a new position. I’ve thought about…

I don’t think I’ve mentioned that I just got a new car (or are moving, or saw a great movie, etc…)
Mention any bad news if there is something that you would like to share. This would be the right spot.

Sadly though, my siblings have been a real pain…
Ask them how they are and/or what they have been up to. This helps get them involved the handwritten conversation.
Enough about me, I’m dying to hear what you’ve been up to!
How have you been doing? Have you done anything fun lately?
How is the family? How about the dogs?
Reiterate that you miss them and sign at the bottom.
Anyway, I miss you guys a ton and hope that we get to hang out again soon!
Sorry that I haven’t been in touch a ton, but I think about you often and hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks for being great, even from a distance. I miss you!
